Warrior Values - CNN or The Onion?

Posted on Friday 2 June 2006

Can you guess if this snippet came from serious news website CNN or parody site The Onion?

Details of the values training program that U.S. troops in Iraq will attend — in the wake of a number of allegations of misconduct and civilian killings — have been obtained by CNN. The slide presentation called “Core Warrior Values Training” includes advice such as don’t leave wounded enemies to die, don’t cause unnecessary suffering, and don’t steal things while searching private homes.

Is it a real news item or a fake one?

If you guessed real, you were correct! Apparently U.S. soldiers need such basic concepts as theft and unnecessary cruelty explained to them. Here’s hoping that the people in charge of the class did not forget the slides on don’t rape little girls.
