I was reading the news today about Costa Rican congresswoman Evita Arguedas, who was elected for the increasingly more inappropriately-named Movimiento Libertario. It seems she’s been ostracized by party leadership because she voted against what they thought. Now, I’m no fan of Evita, but I still think the whole business is hilarious. Luis Barrantes, a congressman from Alajuela, went as far as accusing her of:
She stood apart, made a decision different from the rest of us.
Cue green tea coming out of my nose.
Here’s the full news bit for those who read Spanish.
PS: At least Otto Guevara seems to have stopped using the word libertarian altogether and now just refers to their politics as liberal.
What I love is Federico sounding like the voice of reason. The mini-interview is worth reading:

I thought Hell froze over when I read “Se hizo a un lado uno de los fundadores importantes, Raúl Costales, se purgó por el tema de la deuda política. Él aportó muchísimo al pensamiento libertario y esa ausencia se siente.”
Rough translation: Raúl Costales, one of the party’s important founders was purged over taking state funds (he opposed it), he contributed a lot to libertarian thinking and his absence is felt.
Given that Federico was one of the people most responsible for kicking Raúl out of the party this is quite a statement.
Wow, that’s some sell-out’s remorse. I wonder if this is evidence of a falling out with Otto. Considering Federico is not in the current congress, he was involved in discarding the libertarian principles and kicking out Raúl but probably did not benefit directly from taking in state money, and now sees his chances of ever doing so seriously diminished by the party’s rapid decline.
Nothing quite like just desserts.
