As for Orwell… he’d probably just shake his head and wonder whether his books inspired people to do just the opposite of what he thought best for everyone. Guilt would kill him, wouldn’t it?
Absolutely - it probably gave people a few ideas about what they might get away with, instead of inspiring other people to be wary.
Interestingly enough, in a recent article ( which you can find here http://www.diarioti.com/gate/n.php?id=3603 ) Bill Gates is quoted as saying that Orwell was just “partially right”. This is probably because Orwell didn’t envision the role huge corporations would player as part of the police state.
