Hey.

Long time no nothing. On my part, obviously -- your blog is still up and running. And you're on a Mac nowadays? Well, I guess an open-source programmer with a flair for photography couldn't possibly end up anywhere else. :)

But you should really update your "yo, yo, yo" photo gallery.

And here's mine to you:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/ricardochriste/sets/

Now get me your e-mail address pronto! :)

Cheers,
your old net-pal returning from the online grave

Good point. I was thinking that the "decryption denial" offense had already been penalized, but of course every time you decline to decrypt would be a new crime.

Unfortunately TrueCrypt still does not support OS X, but I can probably mount it on a Linux file server.

It is only a matter of time before this type of legislation is implemented elsewhere. Time to switch to deniable encryption software such as truecrypt.

Also I do not think the law gives criminals an "out". They will jail the individual for two years, when he comes out they will present him with the encrypted data and ask him to decrypt it once again. If he refuses, another offense, another two years.

I loved it when Cramer ranted that "you can't get a loan if you're rich like me". It seemed to me that the explosion was just too much for simply his inability to get a loan or his friends busting out. I wonder how much he personally has tied up in institutions or funds that are looking like they'll go up in flames.

Thanks for the heads up on the article- it's a good description of the current situation, specially on the front of why the Fed won't necessarily ride in to the rescue just because Cramer has a meltdown.

"To summarize, some of Cramer's wealthy friends are losing their jobs because too many bad loans were made during the good times, and the Fed is now expected to bail everyone out. Sound about right?"

Wow, that's some sell-out's remorse. I wonder if this is evidence of a falling out with Otto. Considering Federico is not in the current congress, he was involved in discarding the libertarian principles and kicking out Raúl but probably did not benefit directly from taking in state money, and now sees his chances of ever doing so seriously diminished by the party's rapid decline.

Nothing quite like just desserts.

What I love is Federico sounding like the voice of reason. The mini-interview is worth reading:
http://nacion.com/ln_ee/2007/junio/17/pais1102990.html

I thought Hell froze over when I read "Se hizo a un lado uno de los fundadores importantes, Raúl Costales, se purgó por el tema de la deuda política. Él aportó muchísimo al pensamiento libertario y esa ausencia se siente."

Rough translation: Raúl Costales, one of the party's important founders was purged over taking state funds (he opposed it), he contributed a lot to libertarian thinking and his absence is felt.

Given that Federico was one of the people most responsible for kicking Raúl out of the party this is quite a statement.
