The simplicity of not having choices

If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, is that people are lazy and good at rationalizing. Why exercise, if a single chocolate will make you fat again? Why oppose a corrupt government, if they’ll just be replaced by someone worse? Why learn something new, if it’ll be obsolete in six […]

Letter from an angry soldier

A letter from an ex-Marine angry about people’s ignorant attitudes regarding the war in Iraq.

You fuckers and that god-damn lying sack of shit they call a president are the reason my husband will never see his baby and my kid will never meet his dad.
And you know […]

Star Wars Gangsta Rap

This time coreographed to bits from the films.

Debugging php pages

I like Eclipse. It’s my main Java development tool, and I use it quite extensively for php as well. Mostly I’ve been using PHPEclipse, but it’s just not stopping on breakpoints placed on web server scripts. I gave Zend’s Eclipse PHP platform a shot as well, with the same results.

Setup subversion securely on CentOs

So you have a CentOs box and want to securely set up a subversion server with Apache, but keep finding only tutorials which are either:

Outdated
Not focused on security at all

Search no more. I just went through the process with CentOs 4.4, and here’s a walkthrough on how to do it.

Granted, I’m a cat freak, but this video just absolutely cracks me up. I give you Even a kitten can use a Mac.

Nigerian Scammers using Office Live

I got today the usual “we need your help moving money, you’ll keep 10%” scam that usually operates out of Nigeria. This one had a new twist on their attempt to elicit credibility - it had an URL to an actual site: OmronCorporation.org (not actually linking to them myself). Of course I had to […]

Government critics are terrorists

As Walter F. Murphy attempts to board an American Airlines flight to attend a conference in Princeton University, he is denied a boarding pass because he’s on a terrorist watchlist. Being a former Marine Corps member and a professor emeritus of Princeton, he’s rather surprised, so he attempts to clarify the situation with the […]

Google Desktop on Mac

Merlin Mann describes his experience so far with Google Desktop. Ars Technica has a more in-depth review of exactly what the Google installer is doing. The short version: stick with Quicksilver and Spotlight for now. While Quicksilver might take little bit getting used to, once you grok it you’ll find […]
